Joy Lindsay is President and co-founder of StarTec Investments, LLC, a private venture capital firm focused on early stage technology companies based in the Midwest. Companies in StarTec’s portfolio include XIOtech (acquired 2000), Gentra Systems (acquired 2006), WindLogics, Inc (acquired 2006), Apprise Technologies (acquired 2007), Magnum Technologies (acquired 2007), GovDelivery, Inc. (acquired 2009) , Iconoculture (acquired 2010), Compellent Technologies (NYSE: CML), Medisyn Technologies, Halo Innovations, Inc., Pramata, Inc., Field Solutions, Magnet 360, Nouvant, and LiquidCool Inc.

In addition to her role at StarTec, Lindsay is a member of the Sofia Angel Fund, a Minnesota-based women’s angel fund focused on making private equity investments in companies founded by or led by women or whose products and services target women. She is also involved in the Gopher Angels, a group of angel investors who share screening and due diligence.

Lindsay is a member and past chair of the Minnesota High Tech Association board of directors, is a member of the Advisory Board at the Holmes Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Minnesota, and has served as Secretary and Vice-President of the Minnesota Venture Capital Association. She has served or is currently serving as a director for a number of early stage companies and is on the board of directors for ACES – a non-profit after-school tutor/mentoring program for inner-city youth.

In 2009, she was named one of “40 Minnesotans on the Move” by Finance and Commerce. In both 2010 and 2011, Twin Cities Business magazine identified her as one of “200 Minnesotans You Should Know”. In 2013, she was named one of Minnesota Business magazine’s “The (Real) Power 50”.

Prior to founding StarTec, Lindsay was a Senior Vice President in the Westlaw division of West Publishing (now Thomson Reuters). She has a B.A. in mathematics from Carleton College and an M.B.A. from the University of Minnesota.
